The Brownie Post

Bailey and I were very excited to be contacted by the lovely Anna of West Didsbury's finest breakfast and baked treats venue And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon with news of an exciting venture. A venture so deliciously good my two reactions were firstly to lick my lips and secondly to kick myself for not having come up with the idea myself.

Listen to this, right. A website from which the most exquisite variety of brownies can be ordered directly to your front door and, begrudgingly, to the front door of your nearest and dearest. This may sound too good to be true but fortunately, thanks to The Brownie Post, this is now a reality.

So why brownies? Well it seems that the brownies from Dishes and Spoons were quite the popular treat and with them being in such high demand, Anna and James thought it would be a great idea to make these beauties accessible to those poor people not fortunate enough to live in the fine city of Manchester.

Ordering a box for delivery couldn't be easier, as I discovered when I decided to get a box sent out to my auntie in Suffolk. I still owed her a Christmas presents thank you letter and with my track record for remembering to buy writing paper, stamps, envelopes etc. it really was looking like it was never going to happen. Problem solved - a delicious box of Swirled Choc and Peanut Butter Brownies are now on their merry way to her with the thank you message written on by the kind folk at The Brownie Post - a delectable alternative to a letter if you ask me.

Another reason the concept is so great is that everyone likes getting parcels through the post. That's partly why I love eBay so much. You can imagine my excitement when Anna told me I was getting free brownies, but free brownies THROUGH THE POST just made it all the better.

So what about the brownies? A brownie is just a brownie after all right? Wrong! These brownies were off the hook crazy. We'd decided to be adventurous and go for the White Choc, Pistachio and Cardamom bad boys and they were just amazing. Texture-wise, you struggle to believe that any brownie, let alone one that has been in the hands of Royal Mail for the last 24 hours can be so gooey and sticky but still just the right side of crumbly. That said, the brownies still had a very satisfying slightly crispy layer on top. Throw in some crunchy bits of pistachio now and then and we're talking a brownie texture party in the mouth with everyone invited. I'd never had anything quite like it before. As for the flavour, the chocolate was dark and intense. The cardamom was quite subtle (which Bailey was pleased about seeing as he doesn't like cardamom, something he failed to mention until after I'd put the order in), but it did a brilliant job of keeping the brownies from being sickly. Bad news for anyone watching their waistline as you could eat a tonne of these.

I'd just decided to make myself a chai tea before sitting down to my first brownie which happened to be an amazing combination with the cardamom flavour in the brownies.

Luckily those of us with an allergy to gluten are not excluded from the brownie fun as The Brownie Post also offer a gluten-free alternative to all their brownies. Included in our parcel was a little sample of these too and strangely I think we might have actually liked these even better!!

We want to say a big thanks to The Brownie Post for our delicious box of brownies. Turns out they came at just the right time - when both me and Bailey happened to be having really bad weeks. I discovered that a Brownie Post brownie is pretty much the only thing that can cheer you up in under two minutes after a crap day. I felt quite relieved when we chowed down on our last brownie on Saturday morning as by this point I was becoming a bit obsessed with them, finding myself thinking about them at random times in the middle of the day and not being able to concentrate on my work when they were in the same room as me! So despite my warning that they are a bit addictive, I really recommend The Brownie Post as a great way to bring a smile to the face of a friend, or just if you can't make it to Dishes and Spoons and need a brownie fix.
